DDT stands for Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloro ethane. It is one of the best known synthetic pesticides. Its chemical effects were unknown until the world war2 where it was used for both military and civilian purposes. It was used to control the spread of mosquitoes spreading malaria and also lice transmitting typhus. Today it has widespread applications.
